The contraceptive injection is a method of contraception.
The contraceptive injection contains 1 hormone. The hormone prevents an egg cell from getting ready for ovulation. It also makes it more difficult for sperm cells to enter the uterus and prevents implantation of an egg cell.
The injection works for 3 months. It is used in the following way:
- At the start of your cycle, a doctor or gynaecologist gives you an injection in your upper arm or buttock.
- After 10 weeks, you go back to have a second injection.
- From that moment on you have a new injection every 3 months (12 weeks).
Reliable
The contraceptive injection is very reliable if used correctly.
Does not affect your health
The contraceptive injection contains 1 hormone. This hormone does not generally affect your health.
In some cases, however, it is better to choose another method of contraception. For example if you have a very high risk of getting a heart disease. Ask a doctor for advice.
The injection does not make you less fertile. If you want to get pregnant, you simply do not have the injection renewed. It can, however, take a few months, or up to a year, for your cycle to return to normal.
You may have some side-effects such as headaches, irregular menstrual periods and tender breasts. Consult a doctor if the side-effects are severe.
Your menstrual periods can become less heavy and often stop altogether.
Protection against STIs and HIV
The contraceptive injection does not protect against STIs or HIV. Only a condom can protect you.

- بعد مرور 10 أسابيع يمكنك الرجوع إلي الطبيب للحصول على الحقنة الثانية.
- وبدءًا من هذه اللحظة فسوف تأخذين حقنة جديدة كل 3 أشهر (12 أسبوعًا).
يعتمد عليها
حقنة منع الحمل يعتمد عليها للغاية إذا ما استخدمت بشكل صحيح.
تأثير على صحتك
حقنة منع الحمل تحتوي على 1 هرمون. وهذا الهرمون لن تؤثر بوجه عام على صحتك.
في بعض الحالات يكون من الأفضل أن يتم اختيار طريقة أخرى لمنع الحمل. على سبيل المثال إذا كنت تعانين من خطورة كبيرة من الإصابة بمرض القلب. اطلبي النصيحة من الطبيب.
حقنةمنع الحمل لا تجعلك أقل خصوبة. إذا أردت أن تصيحي حاملًا، فكل ما عليك هو عدم تناول حقنة منع الحمل. يمكن، على أية حال، أن يستغرق الأمر عدة أشهر أو قد تصل إلى سنة، لتعوددورتك إلى حالتها الطبيعية.
يمكن أن تظهر عليك بعض الآثار الجانبية مثل الصداع وعدم انتظام دورات الحيض وليونة النهدين. استشيري طبيبًا إذا ما كانت الآثار الجانبية متعددة.
في أغلب الأحوال تقل كثافة حدوث دورات الحيض لديك ويمكن أن تتوقف تمامًا.
الحماية من العدوى المنقولة جنسيًا وفيروس نقص المناعة
حقنة منع الحمل لا توفر الحماية من العدوى المنقولة جنسيًا أو فيروس نقص المناعة. فقط الواقي الذكري يمكنه أن يحميك.
