A marriage is the official union of two people. To be recognized by the law, a marriage has to meet certain conditions.
Some people marry for love. Others marry for practical or material reasons, such as financial advantage, power, status, or to have children. Marriages can be arranged, or happen because the couple chooses to marry.
Marriage involves a commitment from both partners.
Arranged marriage
In an arranged marriage, the parents or other family members choose the person their child or younger relative will marry. Both men and women can be married in this way.
Often the young people can decide if they want to get married or not, but this is not always the case. According to the law in Europe, you cannot be married to someone you do not want to marry. Forced marriage is forbidden by law. Everyone has the right to choose their partner for themselves.. If you do not want to marry the partner who has been chosen for you, talk about it to someone you can trust, or ask for professional help.
In many European countries, people in a homosexualrelationship (same sex) can also get married.
