HIV, cinsel yolla bulaşan bir enfeksiyondur (STI).
HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus), İnsan İmmünyetmezlik Virüsü’nün kısaltmasıdır. Virüs, vücudunuzun bağışıklık sistemine saldırır.
HIV’ye sahipseniz ve ilaç almıyorsanız bağışıklık sisteminiz zayıflar. İlaç almadan uzun bir süre geçirdikten sonra vücudunuz kendini enfeksiyonlara karşı koruyamaz. Sonrasında bu hastalıkAIDS’e dönüşür. AIDS’e sahip bir insan, sahip olmayan bir insan kadar yaşayamaz.
İlaçlar HIV’yi kontrol altında tutabilir fakat HIV iyileştirilemez. HIV pozitif bir kişi HIV ilaçlarıyla normal bir hayat sürebilir.
Tedavinize katı bir şekilde uymazsanız belirtilere sahip olmasanız dahi HIV’yi diğer insanlara geçirebilirsiniz.

If you have HIV and you do not take medicines, your immune system becomes weaker. After a long time without medicines, your body cannot defend itself any more against infections. You then have AIDS. A person with AIDS is unlikely to live as long as a person without it.
Medicines can keep HIV under control but HIV cannot be cured. With HIV medicines someone with HIV can live a normal life.
If you do not strictly follow your treatment, you can pass on HIV to other people, even if you have no symptoms yet.
