ENEnglish – Difficulties getting pregnant

Difficulties getting pregnant

Some couples get pregnant very quickly, while others have to try for a long time. It is quite normal for it to take up to 1 year for the woman to get pregnant.

Less fertile?

If it takes longer, it may be due to the man’s or woman’s fertility. Perhaps the man does not have enough sperm cells (sperms) in his semen. Or the woman may not ovulate in every menstrual cycle. Fertility declines as people get older. Women are less fertile from their mid-30s onwards, and men from their mid-40s. There are many reasons why a couple might be less fertile.

Talk to your doctor. The woman can be examined by a gynaecologist. The man should consult a urologist. Couples may also go to a fertility clinic for an examination and advice.

Treating infertility

If their desire for a child remains unfulfilled, the couple should go to a specialist for an examination. This may be a gynaecologist or a urologist. The specialist can identify the cause of the infertility. It is only then that the best way of treating the infertility can be determined.
