Het hormonaal implantaat is een anticonceptiemiddel.
Het hormonaal implantaat is een flexibel plastic staafje, zo groot als een lucifer. Het bevat 1 hormoon. Dit hormoon voorkomt de eisprong. Het maakt het ook moelijker voor de zaadcellen om in de baarmoeder binnen te geraken en de eicel te bereiken.
Een dokter of gynaecoloog zal het implantaat inbrengen. U zal plaatselijke verdoving krijgen en het staafje zal met een naald juist onder de huid aan de binnenkant van uw bovenarm worden geschoven. Dit is bijna pijnloos.
Het hormonaal implantaat werkt 3 jaar. Na 3 jaar moet het worden vervangen.
Betrouwbaar
Het hormonaal implantaat is zeer betrouwbaar, als het correct wordt gebruikt.
Geen invloed op uw gezondheid
Het hormonaal implantaat bevat 1 hormoon. Dit hormoon heeft over het algemeen geen invloed op uw gezondheid. Maar in sommige gevallen is het beter om een ander anticonceptiemiddel te kiezen. Bijvoorbeeld: als u een hartziekte, borstkanker of trombose heeft. Vraag advies aan een dokter.
U wordt niet minder vruchtbaar van het hormonaal implantaat. Wanneer u zwanger wil worden, laat u gewoon het implantaat verwijderen.
Tijdens de eerste maanden dat u het hormonaal implantaat gebruikt, kan het bijwerkingen hebben zoals gespannen borsten, hoofdpijn en onregelmatige menstruatie. Deze bijwerkingen verdwijnen meestal vanzelf. Als ze niet verdwijnen, praat erover met een dokter.
Uw menstruatie kan minder hevig worden of zelfs helemaal stoppen. Bij sommige vrouwen wordt de menstruatie heviger. Andere vrouwen blijven een onregelmatige menstruatie hebben of hebben tussendoor bloedingen.
Het hormonaal implantaatbeschermt u niet tegen soa’s en hiv. Alleen een condoom kan u beschermen.

The contraceptive implant does not protect against STIs or HIV. Only a condom can protect you.
