طبقة رقيقة جدًا من الجلد (غشاء) مغطاة بسائل سميك (مخاط). وهي تغطي الجزء الداخلي للفم والحشفة والمهبل والشرج والرحم، من بين أعضاء أخرى. يمكن لبعض الفيرسات والبكتريا الدخول إلى الجسم بسهولة من خلال الغشاء المخاطي وقد تسبب عدوى منقولة جنسيًا.

A very thin layer of skin (membrane) on which there is a thick fluid (mucus). It covers, among others, the inside of the mouth, glans, vagina, anus and uterus. Some viruses and bacteria can easily enter the body through the mucous membrane and can cause an STI.
